Prelude to the Labor Day Picnic

Hello all, long time no see. Golly much has happened during my silence, much good. However I digress and will state this post is purely about the upcoming Tarpley Volunteer Fire Department Labor Day BBQ.

It is of course Sunday September 5th from 11:30am-ish to 3:30pm-ish. This all depends on if you want a seat along the parade route which this year hosts many floats made by local businesses and 6 other fire department's trucks.

For the festivities we have the parade to open up, then BBQ Brisket with the fixins is served for $8 a plate including Tea, then the auction and raffle occur. This year we have $5 raffle tickets with a fancy $3000 lawnmower, Chainsaw, Leaf Blower, Hunting Rifle, and Gift certificates in the raffle. The Auction is always made up of things donated by local businesses with some interesting things being donated here at the last minute.

All the time sodas and beer can be had for donations as well as cake and cookies. An additional thing we offer this year is a kiddy pool consisting of our dump tank which I'm sure after the BBQ will be called the dump tank for a different reason.

We also have live music by somebody, although I don't have that information close at hand.

In any event this is what we will be doing Sunday (and preparing for Saturday). All are welcome and we have had visitors from as far away as the Netherlands. So come on out, what else are you going to be doing?

Commemorative t-shirts can be obtained at the BBQ or through me I suppose if you just can't make it but still want to support our Fire Department, which by the way is all volunteer and financed purely through your donations. We thank you for your support even if you do not live in our area.

The t-shirt looks like this and was created by the incomparable and fabulous Tammy Whiteman (you know, Tammy) who is a wonderful and creative person who donated her time and effort for our cause. Make sure to tweedle your spacebook or tickle your facething or whatever it is you crazy kids do and give her a huge pat on the back for this. They are being sold for $12 ea, or $20 for two and hopefully will be a big seller.

Well that's about it for this topic. I will really really try to post a follow up to it after the BBQ is over.

If by some chance you also want to make a donation to our fire department let me know and I can give you all the information you need to make that happen.

Thanks again for stopping by, take care!
